Business and industry towards a responsible innovation: the example of ICT in ageing
Posted by RRI Tools on 13 Mar 2016
Business and industry play an important role in research and innovation. The products they develop can have a huge impact on our society and may lead to controversies. Responsible Research and Innovation can be a way to incorporate these societal needs, to analyse potential risks and anticipate bad consequences of new technologies.
Bernd Carsten Stahl, Professor of Critical Research in Technology and Director of the Centre for Computing and Social Responsibility at De Montfort University, gave his views to RRI Tools on how business and industry can benefit from Responsible Research and Innovation. He then illustrated this issue with the important social challenge of ageing population in Europe. Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can help addressing this matter, but they need to be developed in a responsible way according to Prof. Bernd Stahl.
