A series of workshops was held in the Czech Republic during the first week of October. The purpose of the workshop was to raise awareness of responsibility research and innovation and to present tools developed in the RRI Tools project. Training sessions took place in four regional cities, namely Ostrava (3 October), Olomouc (4 October), Liberec (5 October) and Brno (6 October) and successfully followed up the first workshop held in Plzeň earlier in June. The workshops were organised by the RRI Hub for the Czech Republic and lecturers were Miroslav Parvonič from Techmania Science Center and Jana Brabcová from Grafia, s.r.o.

Summary of a full day workshop

Friday 1^st of July, about forty people – academics, cultural actors, businesses, policy makers – met up at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie for a full day workshop on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) that we co-organized within the RRI Tools project framework. “European project”, “Science education”, “Living Lab”, “Sustainable innovation” … are some of the words that could be heard during participants conversations, waiting for the beginning of the day, coffee at hand. There is no doubt that the RRI concept triggers enthusiasm as well as it raises questions.

Mobilis Science Center organized a roundtable discussion on Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in Budapest on 13th July. Leading researchers, university professors, members of civil society organizations, and strategic planners of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office joined the event.

A report on the RRI-related workshops and sessions during the Ecsite Annual Conference 2016.

Now that the call for proposals for the next Ecsite Annual Conference 2017 just opened we think it is the right moment to sit down and reflect on the past Ecsite Conference 2016 in Graz and what exactly we learned from it.

Science centres, museums and other science engagement organisations are finding themselves in the middle of the transformation of the science&society relationship. With the concept of RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation), actively promoted by the European Commission, the ongoing process of aligning research and innovation with societal needs and expectations is one of the most important science policy trends in EU funding scheme Horizon 2020. Does it have any implications on the work of science engagement organisation? What kind of role are they ready to take up in this transformation? These and many other questions were the main themes of several sessions and workshops during the Ecsite Annual Conference 2016 in Graz, Austria. The conference offered a great platform to discuss and share concrete experiences with RRI that are relevant specifically for science engagement organisations.
