Posted by RRI Tools on 30 Jul 2015

The Community-Engaged Scholarship for Health (CES4Health.info) is a free online mechanism for peer-reviewing, publishing and disseminating scholarship products other than journal articles. These products can be for example videos, manuals, curricula or products developed through service-learning. Every product submitted to CES4Health is reviewed by community and academic experts who participate in a mandatory training to serve as peer reviewers. On the website users will find high quality tools and resources that can be directly downloaded or obtained from the author, typically free-of-charge. Through CES4Health users can perform  the following actions:

  • Search for high quality tools and resources
  • Submit products for peer review
  • Apply to be a peer reviewer
  • Contribute to the field of community-engaged scholarships and ultimately the health of communities

The CES4Health portal disseminates the products of community-engaged work, not manuscripts about the product or the work that resulted in the product. If someone wants to submit a product she or he must know that every product submitted to CES4Health is reviewed by community and academic experts who participate in a mandatory training to serve as peer reviewers. If the product is published, the Editor sends an email about the publication and the rigorous peer review process to people that authors identify, such as deans, department chairs and supervisors. Through this process, users may be assured that the product that results from health-related community-engaged work that they have found has a high quality. A description of the peer review process can be found in the web site.

One of the strongest features of CES4Health.info is that a product peer-reviewed and published through it is comparable to an article published through a peer-reviewed print or online journal. Moreover, it can be more easily disseminated. It can be said that this tool provides an opportunity for explore diverse pathways and products for dissemination in order to reach and benefit community members, practitioners and policy makers.
